Boy is that the understatement of the century.

Life can get tough being a mom to three under four. There are times I want to cry, scream, or lock myself in the bathroom for just one moment of quiet. My hair is rarely fixed and most days I stay in my pajamas.

Just keeping it real people.

My life may be exhausting and crazy at times. But I couldn't be more thankful to be living it. Who am I that I would be so blessed to live this life?

Life is slowly settling into a rhythm and I am loving every moment of it! I do plan on getting back to posting regularly hopefully here soon. I definitely miss it.

In the mean time though, I have picked up a new little fun hobby by making and selling all kinds of goodies! I do still have my etsy store where I sell quiet books, but I recently started selling headbands, hair ties, clips, bows, bow ties, and embellished burp cloths with my friend Sam over at a little shop on facebook called Lil Miss Vintage!

Here are a few things I have made up recently...

We got our grocery shopping done and headed home. I had a few more contractions in the store. They were not strong and were still very far apart.

When we got home I was feeling a little depressed, so I decided I was going to take a very long relaxing shower. I noticed I had maybe one or two contractions in the shower, but nothing bad. Once I was done taking a shower...I decided to take a bath.

Hey, my midwife did say that I was supposed to relax!

I laid back there listening to music and reading the birth stories in Ina May's Guide to Childbirth (best book about child birth out there in my opinion!) After I got out of the bath I decided to fix my hair. That is when things finally started!

My husband would come back every once in a while to refill my drink and ask me if I was having any contractions. I said yes. I didn't want to start timing the contractions though because my midwife said not to. Plus, they were not strong at all. I could still walk and talk through them. I felt fine. But as I called out to my husband each time I was having one I quickly realized they were coming pretty close together. My husband suggested that I time them. I agreed, but said that we would not head to the center again until the contractions got too hard to deal with or my water broke.

To my surprise....they were coming 2-3 minutes apart. I was so confused. I thought they were supposed to hurt by the time they got this close together. My husband suggested I call my midwife just in case.

"Hi Bernadette, this is Lorissa. I am having contractions 2-3 minutes apart."

"Oh honey, you need to get back here right now. You are having a baby tonight."

"No, no, I'm sure it's nothing. They are so mild. I can still talk through them."

"No you need to come back right now."

So we put all of our bags back into the van, dropped the boys back off at our friends house and headed to the birth center.

When we arrived my midwife checked me and found that I was already at 8cm! I just laughed. I couldn't believe it! I was at 8cm and was no where even close to what I would call in pain.

My midwife had already prepared the tub for me and I got right in.

This is me right after we got there. Happy as can be. I was so over joyed to finally be in labor! I remember being in labor with my boys, basically strapped down to a bed and begging for an epidural at 5-6cm. This seemed way to surreal to be at an 8 and this HAPPY!

Contractions did slowly start to increase in intensity. But they never became painful. I would have to stop and move gently from sided to side and and focus through them, but I never got to the -screaming and cursing- part that so many people talk about. I couldn't believe the difference in being able to move freely, and not be confined to a bed, made in being able to handle the contractions. The water also made a huge difference. It felt wonderful to relax in the tub.

My mom and husband were wonderful. They both would massage my back and neck while I was having a contraction. I did start to get nauseous at one point and my midwife got a bottle of peppermint for me to smell. That helped tremendously and the nausea faded.

My favorite part of labor was when my husband would hold my hand during a contraction and I would lay my face against his arm. There was something indescribably comforting about that to me.

At 8:20 pm my midwife checked baby's girl heart rate and discovered that it had dropped to 110bpm. At this time I was sitting back resting in the tub. She told me, 'okay momma, turn over, time to have a baby!' I was confused because I wasn't feeling the "urge" to push. But as soon as I flipped over onto my knees, I felt it! I think my exact words were "wooooooow! Holy crap!". The intensity went from feeling like you are sitting still, to being shot out of a cannon. It took me a little bit to adjust to the sudden intensity.

This was the only point in my labor that I would consider "painful". But to be honest it was more
-crazy intense- than painful.

My husband wanted to be the one to catch the baby, so he went with my midwife, and my mom stayed by me for comfort and support. It really was amazing. My husband kept encouraging me and my mom prayed over me the whole time. It took a little bit to figure out how to push properly. I would almost have her out, and then I would get scared of the intensity and stop. It finally came to the point where I just had to surrender to the pain and push. I never felt that "ring of fire" that others describe. All I remember is feeling the most intense amount of pressure ever. It was crazy. It was a good thing we didn't wait at home till my water broke or things got intense, because neither of those things happened until it was time to push.

After what felt like eternity to me, but was only 10 minutes of pushing, Charlotte was born into her daddy's hands after only 3 1/2 hours of labor.

She had the cord wrapped around her neck twice, which is what caused her heart rate to drop. The good thing about her being born in the water was that they were able to unwrap the cord while she was still under the water and it did not have to be cut prematurely or risk any complications.

To say it was one of the most emotional and wonderful moments of my life would be a huge understatement. There was such a peace and yet such a euphoric high of holding our sweet baby for the first time. It was a moment I will always treasure.
Recovery this time has been so much better than my other delivers. Choosing to have a natural birth was with out a doubt one of the best decisions I have ever made. As crazy as it sounds I would love to do it again!

Fast forward to 40 weeks pregnant. I was still feeling fantastic. No contractions, no cramps, and still sleeping comfortably through the night.

It was annoying. Haha!

I was convinced that because I was feeling nothing that she was staying put for the long haul. I was right. At my 40 week appointment my cervix showed almost no signs of change. Dilated to a 1 but not thinned out at all. I knew things could change overnight so I stayed positive. I was okay with her cooking for as long as she needed.

But the days start to wear on you. Any day could be THE day. So every day I worked tirelessly to keep the house clean, the laundry all washed, and everything ready for the baby's arrival. By 41 weeks I was done trying to keep everything together, it was way too exhausting.

Sunday morning, 41 weeks, we were sitting in church when I noticed I was feeling horrible. I felt light headed and dizzy, and was developing a horrible headache. I looked down at my hands and realize that not only were my feet and legs starting to swell, but so were my hands. I told my husband as soon as the service was done that we needed to leave right away so I could check my blood pressure. We stopped at a Walgreens and I went in to check my blood pressure. Sure enough it was high- 144/90. I called my midwife immediately. She was already at the birth center with some one in labor so she said to come by and she would check me over.

When we arrived at the center she checked my urine and blood pressure. Sure enough I had protein in my urine and my blood pressure was very high. She checked my cervix again and found I was still at a 1 but at least I was thinning out. I was terrified this meant I was going to have to transfer to a hospital, have an induction, epidural, all of the things I desperately did not want.

My midwife said we definitely need to have the baby soon, but that there were things they could do to encourage baby to come. She stripped my membranes and gave me a tea mixture of pregnancy tea and black and blue cohosh. She told me and my husband to go walking and that if labor hadn't started by morning to be back at the center by 8:00 am.

Our dear friends watched our boys for us while we went on a little mini date. We got some dinner and walked around a bunch of stores. I had some minor cramps but no contractions.

In the morning (Monday) we finished packing our bags and headed off to the Birth Center. When we got there my midwife immediately checked my urine and blood pressure. To every one's surprise and relief there was no protein in my urine and my blood pressure had gone back down. My midwife checked my cervix again and discovered I was dilated to a 3 now, 80% thinned out, and she was able to stretch me to a 4. She stripped my membranes again, gave me another mixture of black and blue cohosh, and sent us out walking again. She was sure that by lunch time, dinner time at the latest, we would have a baby.

So my husband, my mom, and I went to walk around a few stores. Still no contractions. We headed back to the Birth Center after lunch for the midwife to check me to see if anything was going on. I was dilated to a 5. So we decided to head home for a few hours to rest and would come back to the birth center around 5:00, and if no more progress had been made they would go ahead and break my water.

I was still not feeling any contractions by the time we headed back to the birth center. The whole day my midwife had been checking my blood pressure and it had stayed low. After talking, we decided that we would go home, get a good nights rest and come back in the morning and she would break my water then to get things going.

We went home, had a wonderful dinner, enjoyed the company of family, and slept wonderfully. Still no contractions.

Tuesday morning we woke up and headed back to the birth center, hoping this would finally be it. When we got there my midwife checked my blood pressure and urine again. Still great. Praise God! They decided to wait on breaking my water though and try some more black and blue cohosh. This time just straight black and blue and not diluted in a tea. Wow that stuff was horrible! After taking several rounds it and bouncing on a birthing ball, I was still feeling zero contractions. Not even a single cramp. So my midwife came back in and stripped my membranes one more time before sending my husband and I out to do some curb walking.

We walked around the birth center, on foot on the curb and one off. My husband was amazing during this entire process. He was so encouraging and loving. Through out this entire thing I found myself falling more and more in love with the man that he is.

It was now 3:00. It had been a long day of trying our hardest to get labor started. I was dilated to a 5 but nothing was happening. Another one of the midwives met with us and said that my midwife would break my water for me if I wanted or we could just wait since my blood pressure had been perfect.

I felt so torn. I thought that if they broke my water that might just be the thing my body needed to kick it into gear. But, if contractions did not start I would end up in the hospital, on pitocin, and all things I did not want to happen. After talking through the pros and cons with my husband and mom, we had finally decided to go ahead and ask her to break my water. I still felt scared and unsettled about the whole thing though.

When my midwife came in I expected her to say 'if you all want me to break your water I will'. But I was surprised to hear - "Ok, we have done everything we can to start contractions naturally. Obviously your baby is not ready to come yet. I think we should wait". That was all the reassurance I needed that waiting was the right decision. My midwife told me "go home and relax. Take a bath, enjoy a nice meal, and don't think about labor. Don't time contractions. Nothing. Just enjoy your evening." The plan at that point was that if labor had not started on it's own by Friday that I would come into the center and they would for sure break my water. (Once you get to 42 weeks you can no longer deliver at the center and have to go to the hospital. So at that point the risk of breaking my water would be worth it.)

I felt peace about our decision to wait, like God was telling me to keep trusting Him. I still cried however, as we drove home. I knew my baby wouldn't stay put forever, but I was still sad that I wasn't going home with her in my arms. We decided to stop at the grocery store on the way home. As we were walking into the store my husband turns around and says "Now you know that since we are going home you are not allowed to have this baby tonight right?".

And wouldn't you know...I had my very first contraction right at that moment.

It is now 6 weeks since the birth of our precious baby girl. Life has been busy, but wonderful. We are currently visiting with my husbands family and I finally have a few moments to sit down and write our daughter's birth story.

For her birth we decided to use a midwife and have our daughter at a free standing birth center (meaning it is not located in a hospital). Before I jump into the birth story I want to give you a bit of background to explain why in the world I would even want to have a natural labor.

When I was pregnant with my first son the thought of a natural labor was completely insane to me. Why in the world would some one not want an epidural?! I always said I wanted to enjoy my labor and remember my son's birth, not be screaming in pain and so out of it that I remembered nothing. So at 39 weeks, after being on bedrest for the last 6 weeks dealing with preeclampsia, I went into the hospital for my induction. Looking back now I realize how uneducated I was about the whole ordeal. I just went with the flow and did what ever the nurses and doctors told me to. Praise God because I know His hand of protection was on me and my baby during that labor and delivery. I had no idea all of the risks I was taking by being induced- a cytotec induction no less. Thankfully I was able to deliver my son vaginally after only 6 hours of labor, an epidural, and a horrific tear.

I remember being so drugged up and feeling very out of it. I loved my baby and was so happy to meet him, but something was missing. I truly believe all of the drugs made it difficult for me to really connect immediately and enjoy the experience. Funny how what I thought would help me enjoy my labor more actually disconnected me from it.

Recovery was horrific. I healed for 6 weeks, then had to have surgery since my tear did not heal properly and had 6 more weeks of healing. There had to be a better way.

My second son was born in a different state, with a different doctor. I had a dear friend who had told me all about how wonderful her natural homebirths had been so I began doing some reading and research. I found myself thinking if having a natural birth can help me feel more connected and not tear as bad I think I could handle the pain. But here we were at 39 weeks again and I made the choice to have another induction. My little sister was getting married two weeks later, 12 hours away, and I was to be her maid of honor. I just couldn't miss that. Yes I know many would say that I was selfish, stupid, whatever, for having an elective induction, but I made the choice and I would not change it.

His birth was the one that made me know for sure that I would never have an obgyn or hospital birth again. After pitocin being set to the highest level possible, not being allowed to get out of bed to even pee, an epidural, and 4 hours of labor, our second son was born. I had a 3rd degree tear and still felt very drugged up from all of the pitocin and epidural. But this time I had made it to 8cm before getting the epi. I was proud of my self for making it that far but also disappointed that I was not able to have the birth I had really wanted. I realized that for me that would never be possible in a hospital with an obgyn.

Praise God that He protected me and my precious boys through both of my inductions. I know not all women are as lucky.

When I got pregnant with our daughter, I determined that this time would be different. We were living in Oklahoma City at the time but were going to be moving soon to Houston. I decided to temporarily go to my OBGYN that I had with my last baby, but as soon as we moved to Houston I began looking for a midwife and a birth center.
So I'm still here. Still pregnant.

I always thought 'oh going past your "due date" is no big deal, if I go over it won't bother me'.

Yah, what in the world did I even know?!

Apparently nothing.

Because, even if you can keep your self patient and positive it wears on you. Every day you do the same things to get everything prepared just in case today is the day. And then sink into bed at night disappointed that you didn't feel a single contraction, a single cramp, a single moment of maybe something is starting.

So, instead of making myself crazy trying to 'stay prepared' I have decided to just forget the fact that I am pregnant and it is time for this baby to get here. I have finally been able to write off the last few things on my to-do list and baby girl's nursery is finally complete! (the only exception being that she needs a crib mattress still!)

Here it finally is...the big nursery reveal! I am so in love with how it turned out. There are so many special little details that I have a hard time picking my favorite part of the room. So here we go...

Charlotte's Sweet Vintage Handmade Nursery

The curtains were the final project that took me forever to get to. But I am beyond in love with how they turned out. They are actually a mix of two different sets of curtains that I cut up and pieced together. The beautiful lace part of the curtain came from my moms house. I cut them apart and pieced in some sheer panels that I already had on hand to lengthen them and add interest. I just love looking at them!

Her crib minus the mattress. Still need to buy that...hopefully in the next few weeks. You can see more details about the ruffled crib skirt here.

Then I made several decorative pillows for her bed. The patchwork in the back was made from my baby quilt. The embroidery pillow in the front was made from two place mats that I found at a thrift store. I love the flowers on it!

I made the sweet little rag doll using this pattern. I plan to make her a few more in the future. Maybe for next Christmas.

The quilt/crib blanket was made from a vintage thrifted sheet, the backing from my baby quilt, and some satin binding. It is so incredibly soft.

I have been in love with the pom pom mobiles and decorations I have seen on Etsy and Pinterest lately and knew that I HAD to make one for Charlotte's nursery. It was actually a really fun and easy project to make. You can find a how to here.

Next up is the "gallery" wall. It is definitely one of my favorite parts of the room. When I started thinking about what I wanted to do with the nursery I asked my mom and each of my sisters to paint a special picture that I could hang in Charlotte's room. I love the fact that she now has something special from her Hunny and each of her aunts! We found a lot of the pictures we used off of Pinterest and etsy and changed colors to match her rooms theme.

The bunting was made from extra fabric scraps I had laying around. I love those kinds of projects!
I have shared previously about the Ombre dresser that I painted for Charlotte. I am still in love with it. I would love to add some glass knobs eventually though.

With the boys I bought wooden letter and spelled out their names above their cribs. But I decided to go with a giant C for little miss this time instead. To make the C I simply cut out a giant C from card board and wrapped it in yarn.

I had also been given a large amount of embroidery hoops and decided to make a small grouping for her wall. The white one says 'You are loved', the pink one has a creme dandelion on it, and the mint green one has a small heart in the corner.

On the dresser I have the mint green lamp, some brave girl books, and Charlotte's head band holder. The holder was made from gluing scrapbook paper to a oatmeal container and hot gluing a spray painted candle holder to the bottom.
I love this little shelf. It holds a few storage containers, books, and that adorable little vintage playhouse. I am still looking for a little lamp to put on the table as well.

In the basket next to the shelf is all of the little toys I have been making and collecting. You can see them in more detail here.
On the last wall is Charlotte's Kite Hair Bow holder. You can find a tutorial on how to make your own here. If you can't tell I have been busy making bows!

I have added many items to her room that were my own as a little girl. The carousel horse, little white slip, dolls, and cradle were all mine.
So there you have it. Charlotte's vintage sweet handmade nursery. I love this room so much.

Now we are just waiting for the little girl to show up...anytime little girl...anytime...
I can't believe I am already at the end of this pregnancy. This time around I decided to take weekly pictures from 20 weeks on to see how my belly progressed. So here it is weeks 20-39!

40 weeks is approaching quickly and I am patiently waiting on this little girl to decide it is time. I can't wait to see if she will have red hair and blue eyes like Jack or brown hair and brown eyes like Luke. I'm excited to snuggle a newborn again, but until then I am cleaning, resting, and spending as much time with my boys as I can.

Here is my view as of late...actually I am kind of cheating and peeking over my belly. My toes are no longer visible looking straight down. Almost done with this pregnancy though, and starting to feel it.

I am thankful it has been a very smooth and easy pregnancy. Other than baby girl being temporarily breech, there have been zero complications. Praise God! We have been staying super busy and time has been flying by! I have been cleaning and nesting, taking care of little ones, and keeping preoccupied with the holidays and family.

Baby girl's room is almost completed and I will have a full nursery reveal soon! Just waiting to get the final touches in place and it will be all ready for our sweet little one.

The last few days preparing for Christmas have been very relaxing, and I have had some spare time to sew a few fun things for baby girl. Here is what my sewing machine and I have been up to lately...

My Garden Touch and Feel Book

I have made a book similar to this one in the past for my etsy shop and just had to make one for baby girl.
For this sweet little sensory book I used lots of left over scraps of lace, ribbon, scarves, yarn, and textured fabrics to make each flower. I also added two little crocheted pieces that my Grandmother had made several years ago. It was a really quick and fun project to make.
I originally found the ideas for these little guys on Pinterest and loved them. They were so quick and easy, and literally used scraps to make. So thankful to be able to celebrate a loving Savior who became flesh some 2000 years ago! In order to celebrate with the boys, our elf was found kneeling at the manger this morning. We then read the story of the birth of Christ from our Jesus story book Bible and sang Happy Birthday to Jesus. The boys thought it was the coolest thing that it was Jesus' birthday. Do you and your family have any fun traditions to celebrate Christ on this special day?

My newest crush: Pom poms! After using them on my Lamp redo I have been thinking of all other places I can add them!

So, pom pom trim for a pillow? Absolutely!!!

This pillow was extremely easy to make and only took about 15 minutes to finish. I have been holding on to this vintage floral mint green fabric for forever, just waiting for the perfect time to use it. It goes perfectly in Charlotte's nursery! I bought the pink pom pom trim at Hancocks on sale, and stuffed it with left over stuffing from other projects. This pillow cost me only $1.50 to make!

I just love those little pom poms! Luke loves them too and calls them balls...he has tried his hardest to remove them already. Ha!

For right now this pillow's home is on this adorable little wooden chair, next to Charlotte's toy cradle and baby dolls. I love being able to pass things that were mine, onto my baby girl. The doll, teddy bear, and cradle were all mine as a little girl. I am still debating on wether or not I want to sand down and repaint the cradle and the chair...not too sure yet.

I actually have at least one, maybe two or three more projects where I can see myself adding more pom pom trim. :-) I'm telling you....totally in love with the pom poms!

I was going to do exactly like Decor 8 suggests by getting paint samples and painting each drawer a color from a swatch I liked. Their dresser is in Apricot shades and I decided to go with more of a pink/coral color. Well I found the perfect coral swatch at walmart but found out they don't sell paint samples. And any one who knows me well, knows that when I start a project I want to finish it quickly. I hate wait. So I decided instead of trying to find a Lowes or something around us I would just grab some Apple Barrell paint that matched the darkest color perfectly, and add white to lighten to the other shades. I didn't end up with the *perfect* shades but I got really close. Plus the paint only cost me $2 total. Awesome!

So here is my final result...

(Please attempt to ignore our floor...it currently has concrete and some temporary carpet)

I am so pleased with how it turned out! I think the colors fade perfectly into each other, yet each one stands out. I am contemplating replacing the knobs with some glass looking ones, but am not completely sure yet.

Once the drawers had dried I lined them with some contact paper, moved the dresser into Charlotte's room, and promptly added a few cute and cuddly baby girl clothes...

Gah! Aren't those baby socks too cute!!!! I can't wait to fill the rest of the dresser with girly goodness!
I went to a private school till 4th grade and really enjoyed it. When my family moved and there was no longer a good option for schooling available, my parents decided to home school us children. We were extremely involved with our local home school Co-op and were able to take classes once a week, meet friends, go on field trips, attend our Prom, and even have a graduation ceremony with our peers. It was wonderful. After graduating, going to college, and meeting my husband, I still thought I would put my child in public school. My husband grew up in public school and was comfortable with the idea. Our minds changed however when we had our first child. Now, don't get me wrong, we are not against public/private schools. My husband and I prayed about the idea of home schooling, and God put it in our hearts that it was the route to go for our family.

Jack just turned 3 in July and we decided to officially start Preschool with him. He loves learning and loves structure, so I knew he would thrive having a "school time" during the day. We decided to start with learning his Alphabet.

"Preschool Our Way"...
Each week we learn a new letter of the Alphabet. Each project/craft/work page is centered around that specific letter. We currently use many different methods to help him learn each letter's name and sound. I try to vary between structured worksheets, a craft, a song, a game, and hands on learning/sensory.

While we do have a few work books that we purchased, the majority of worksheets are made up by me. Pinterest has also been a wonderful help with finding many free resources for teaching methods, projects, and even lesson plans.

Here is one of Jack's favorite games: He has to dig out the foam letters from the bean box, then put them into the appropriate matching box on the paper. When he places a letter in the box, we say the letter name and the sound it makes. Repetition is the key! The more you can go over and over and over, the better they will remember. I also throw a few letters in that he has not learned yet, those he puts into a separate pile, acknowledging that they do not match.

To practice our writing skills we have adapted a few different ideas. Jack isn't quite ready for the trace the broken lines concept so instead I simply draw out the letter with a marker, and he traces the letter with a paint pen. These paint pens are his favorite thing to use!

This is great pre-writing skill builder! Draw out the letter you are learning and have your child place stickers in a row along the letter. It is wonderful for fine motor skills and hand eye coordination practice. I will say this is not Jack's favorite since it takes a lot of focus for him. So I try to keep him motivated to finish and then we do something a lot less intensive after to let his little mind rest. Seriously, he looks like his brain has been zapped after this activity from focusing so hard! lol

We do have a few workbooks that we use. We have phonics, numbers, cutting, and pasting books. However, with all the free resources on line, you honestly don't even need to bother buying them. For the week of the letter A instead of using our cutting book I made a Trail of Ants instead. He loved this activity so much!

What else do we like to do:

Library day: On Mondays we try to make a trip to the library to find books that start with the Letter of the week. For letter A week we read about Ants, Armadillos, Alligators, and Apples. We read through the book once, then go back and find as many letter A as we can.

ABC Bible Verse: This has been my favorite part of our preschool. I did not think that Jack would be able to really retain a full Bible verse, but decided to go ahead and try it. I am amazed at not only how quickly he learns them, but how well he remembers them even weeks later! We are using I Can Teach My Child's ABC Printable Scripture Cards. They are wonderful! And free! Each letter has it's own Bible verse to learn with it. We simply put hand motions to the verse and repeat it a few times every day. Jack has learned it in full by the end of the first day, and usually can say it all by himself by the second. So, that makes Wednesday-Sunday (we do the verse, not school, every day) simply review and committing it to memory.

Grocery Store Letter Hunt: This is Jack's all time favorite game to play. Before we go out to any store I give him a 3x5 card that has the letter of the week written on it. As we are going through the store, Jack's job is to find the letter any where and tell me about it. It is so cute how excited he gets..."the letter A mom!!!!!!!!!" The first time playing this took a little while for him to get the concept but now he is a pro. He has even started pointing out the letter on billboards and signs outside when we are driving in the car.

Letter Craft: We love to do at least one really fun project where we turn the letter of the week into something else. No Time for Flash Cards has a fantastic list of crafts for each letter. You can also find free printable letters to use for crafts from Learn Create Love.

Our structured sit down "school time" usually consists of around 30 minutes -1 hour a day. This is when we will go over what our letter is, practice our handwriting skills, and make our craft. Learning happens through out the entire day though. We have reading time, and play with play dough- spelling out our letters, or making a dog for the letter D. We paint, color, or sing. I think sometimes our most meaningful lessons happen during our every day life as opposed to our structured time. And of course we make lots and lots of time for just play.

Make sure to stay flexible. If there is a day in which Jack is really struggling to stay focused, we will only do one structured, focused activity and then try to do more hands on, sensory, or play based learning. Every child is different and therefore learns differently. Just because something works great for my child, doesn't mean it will work perfect for yours. Take time to learn your child's interest and strengths, then come up with a plan to use those to help them learn.

In a nut shell (or a very long blog post) that is how we do it.

Any one else out there in the midst of preschool? Any tips or fun things that you and your children enjoy?
One of my favorite little additions to Charlotte's nursery is her mint green lamp. This was a lamp I had for quite a while but did not really have a home for it. It was creme and had a plain white shade. Not too exciting. So for the nursery I decided to spray paint the base and embellish the shade.

The color I choose for the base (looks darker in the picture than it is in real life) was Krylon Catalina Mist in Satin. Then, I found this adorable mini pom pom trim at the store and knew it would be the perfect addition to the lamp shade. I simply hot glued the trim to the edges of the shade. Easy peasy!
Oh and that little stack of books on the dresser? I have slowly been collecting books for Charlotte. Some of these were my favorites as a little girl. Now I know that Charlotte won't be reading Pride and Prejudice any time soon...but it is never too early to start a book collection. Right?
It has been almost a full year in the process for us, and over a year in the making for several of the other families on our team. In May 3 of the 4 families on our team moved to Houston, and we soon joined in August. This past summer has been full of community outreach and making personal and meaningful connections with families in Pearland.

After so much planning, anticipation, and hard work, we were thrilled to hold our very first Preview Service. Now that term may sound a little funny to some so I will explain what it means. A preview Service is just that...a preview of what your normal church service will look and function like. It is a chance to work out any kinks and to help figure out how to make things operate smoothly. You treat it just like a normal service but it gives us a chance to fine tune everything before the "official launch" of the church.

We had 33 people in attendace at our very first preview service. We had several friends and family show up to support us, as well as a few families from the community that we had met. It was so exciting to see the vision that God has put in front of us actually coming together!

We were able to hold our service at an event center at a park. Here is a little of what our Service looked like:
This was a few hours before the service started. Every one getting set up and sound checking. The location was perfect! We are praying that it will be open to us on a weekly basis when we launch the Church this January.
The two and three year old class having their lesson time. We also had a good group of 5 kids for our older class that Chad and I taught, as well as 4 other little ones in the nursery section. We have been blessed with lots of little ones already.

We are all very excited about our next preview service coming up in November. Continue to pray for our team as we work even harder to reach out to the community of Pearland and make deep connections with families. We are so excited to see what God has in store for Pearland and Advance Church! Charlotte's nursery. Here is just one of the little projects that I have
finished.

Felt Ball Flowers

I
have seen the felt ball flower idea in a few different nurseries on
Pinterest and loved the idea! I find them very simple, sweet, and kind
of whimsical. You can buy felt ball flowers already made on Etsy, but I
am more of a diy girl, so I made a quick run to Hobby Lobby. I found a
package of premade felt balls for just a few dollars on clearance and
picked up the green pipe cleaners to be the stems. I used a needle to
put a small hole in one end of the felt ball, squirted in a dab of hot
glue and stuck the pipe cleaner to it. Tada! All done.

Now, if you want to really diy, you can make the felt balls yourself! Jump on over to Lil Blue Boo for her tutorial on how to make your own felt balls. It is surprisingly easy! Plus you can make them in any color or size you want.

These
flowers would be a beautiful addition to really any room in your home.
Mix and match colors like I did or go with a single color. You can use
pipe cleaners or even colored wire. Make small or large balls. Get
creative and add some beautiful color to you home!
I posted a little while ago about my long to-do list for baby girl before she arrives in January. I decided to get started this week with her bed skirt. Thankfully this project did not take as much time as I first thought it would.

So here you have it... a girly, ruffly, vintage inspired crib skirt!

I have been
searching Pinterest for different ideas and inspiration. Here are a few
things that inspired me to make this crib skirt...

I loved the ruffles on this ombre crib skirt! You can actually find a full tutorial on how to make your own on EmmmyLizzzy!

Here is another layered crib skirt from On To Baby. I love how they use so many different prints that aren't really "matchy" but they "go" great together!

I also looooove the look of this layered crib skirt! Head over to Makely Home to find her tutorial on how to make one out of curtians and save money on buying lots of fabric!

To make Charlotte's crib skirt, I started with an already made, thrifted, crib skit. The skirt was the yellow gingham fabric edged with the lace that you see on the bottom layer. The crib skirt was really wide so I simply adjusted the dimensions and added the top layers to part of the base of the crib skirt. I already had the lace on hand, sitting in my fabric stash begging to be used, and I found the other two prints of fabric at Hancock's for 50% off. Score! In total this crib skirt cost me less than $10! I am so beyond in love with it! I can't wait to finish the rest of her bedding and see it all come together! Hard to believe. This is by far the fastest pregnancy I have had, and I know the holidays are just going to make it go faster!

There are a few things I am doing differently this pregnancy. Even though I am only in my second trimester I am starting to prepare myself for labor. By that I mean I am studying and reading things on labor and natural birth like crazy. My first two labors were both hospital births were I was induced. Neither was that great of an experience, and recovery from each birth was extremely difficult! Because of my difficult recoveries, (I will spare you the gory details) I have searched for a better way for me.

God thankfully put a wonderful friend in my life who has had all three of her babies at home and speaks about labor and birth as such a beautiful thing. Hard work, but a wonderful thing. Her mentality was so refreshing to me. The idea of not being afraid of labor and understanding how and why your body works the way it does really peeked my interest in the whole idea of natural birth. She sent me the book "The Official Lamaze Guide Giving Birth With Confidence" by Judith Lothian and Charlotte DeVries. I began reading and studying and came to the conclusion that a natural birth is exactly what I wanted. So this little one will be born in a Birthing Center. I could not be more excited. Weird to say, I know. But I am!

During my research of Natural Birth I came upon a guest post by Bambi of In The Nursery Of The Nation on the benefits of Red Raspberry Leaf Tea in Pregnancy. I had read briefly about red raspberry leaf during my second pregnancy but did not really get a chance to really research it. Here is what I found...

BENEFITS:

Excerpt from The Bulk Herb Store about the benefits...

"Red Raspberry is the best single herb that we can take for total uterine
health. There is a long list of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that
the uterus needs to work efficiently. Red Raspberry Leaf has virtually
all of them. The most popular use for Red Raspberry Leaf Tea is for mama
and baby’s health throughout pregnancy. It provides your uterus with a
nourishing source of vitamins and minerals that are vital for a healthy
pregnancy. Red Raspberry is also an excellent source of an alkaloid
called fragrine, which tones the muscles of the pelvic region, including
the uterus itself. This really helps to lower and sometimes eliminate cramps
from the menstrual cycle and also makes for an easier birth."

- less post-partum bleeding
-tones the uterus and can make for an easier birth
-can help reduce pain during labor
-contains vitamins and minerals...C,E,A,B, calcium and iron.
-can help stop/prevent false labor

Umm ya...did you catch all that...possible less post partum bleeding, possible easier birth. To me that is at least worth a try! If it works, then awesome! If not, I haven't lost anything.

I purchased my Red Raspberry leaf from the Bulk Herb store and have already began to drink at least a cup a day. When I am farther along I will increase how many cups I am drinking, till I am drinking 3-4 a day. Now keep in mind, this is something you do need to drink daily to reap the benefits. Drinking it a handful of times during pregnancy is still good for you, but you probably won't experience all of the benefits of the tea. My favorite way so far to drink it has been hot tea with a teaspoon of raw honey, and a squeeze of lemon. It really is so relaxing to sip on after a long day. You can drink it hot or cold, whatever your personal preference is. Now if you really hate tea, you can find this in a pill form as well.

Even if you are not pregnant drinking this as a tea is still very beneficial for any woman! It can help increase fertility in both women and men. It can also help with an irregular and heavy menstrual cycle. My sister who struggles with irregular and difficult cycles has decided to start drinking this tea for that very reason. It would be a wonderful alternative to using the pill to regulate a young girls menstrual cycle.
While perusing facebook today, I stumbled upon my little sisters post sharing that she had started a blog to document her weight loss journey. I knew that she had been working hard to be healthy and had recently lost weight...but when I clicked on the link to read it, I had no idea what she had actually went through to get where she is now.

This is Andrea. She is a senior in high school. She is such a gorgeous girl inside and out! She has an amazing heart for missions and serving God. She is so bright, kind, and full of life!

But her story made my heart ache. I had no idea what she went through. I wanted to share her story here because I don't think we truly realize how much the young girls in our lives are suffering. How little in value they feel. How much they actually hate themselves. We know the pressure society puts on them to be beautiful and skinny, but do we realize the actual toll it takes on them? What it truly costs them? I thought I did, but I honestly had no idea!

Here is a quick snippet of Andrea's blog

"Jr. high was finally here! I was terrified that summer but my mom
thought she would do something nice that might pep me up and took me
shopping for school clothes. I remember this day so perfectly because I
shopping had never made me cry my eyes out till this day. My mom took me
and Miranda into American Eagle to get us some “Teenage girl” jeans.
Miranda found the perfect pair for her that made her look great and feel
so happy! While I was pulling, tugging, and trying to wiggle my way
into the same size as her in the dressing room next to her. I didn’t
come out for a very long time, I sat there and cried my eyes out.
Finally my mom came in after beginning to worry. She gave me a big hug
and told me it was going to be okay. After that day I swore I would work
so hard to become skinny and beautiful like the rest of the girls. And
that was my problem. I was loosing weight to be beautiful. To be wanted.
To be “sexy”. And when it didn’t it only reassured the thought that i
wasn’t beautiful and that no one would ever want me. As Jr. high began I
returned to my Homeschool co-op where i had grown up with most of my
friends there. I had the biggest crush on my best guy friend. We’d know
each other since we were 5 and suddenly he was tall and cute and not the
goofball older brother I had always seen him as. But there was no way I
would ever get him. Every girl in school liked him. That year was one
of the hardest. I lost friends to other girls that didn’t like me.
Gossiping became a new thing for girls in my grade and back stabbing
happened at every turn. To make matters worse my church and family life
was pretty awful. My friends at church were pulling me into the wrong
stuff and I was openly letting them. My oldest, Lorissa, had gone off to
college and was getting married soon and my second oldest sister,
Erica, was getting ready to leave for college. I didn’t know who to turn
to during all this. I couldn’t go to my mom because that would admit I
wasn’t strong enough to handle myself. And all my other sister’s were strong, so
I better keep quiet that way I’m not a disappointment. So my self worth
was at level zero and never once did I think to call out to God for
help because I thought he was the one who cursed me with this body and
ugliness so he wouldn’t help me. No just keep quite and don’t be a
problem is what i always told myself. "

Jump on over to The Atlas of Andy and check out her full story. I truly believe it is one we all need to read. Then take a good look at the young women, and even women our age in our lives to see if they are suffering.
It is good to be back after a bit of an impromptu break. Life has been super busy here at our home. We are settling in nicely though, and excited to get to work and see what God has in store for us here in Houston.
If you are unfamiliar with what the "No Poo" method is check out my 30 Day No Poo Challenge and try it for yourself! It has been one of the easiest and best changes I have made in my beauty routine.

When I first started research the No Poo method I read about one blogger who had a rough time using this method during her pregnancy due to the hormonal changes you go through. Since starting this method my hair has changed for the better drastically! I beyond love the results I have had. So I was a bit nervous about what would happen to my new found and extremely loved method now that I was baking a new little one.

Thankfully during my first whole half of pregnancy I did not notice any difference at all. No Poo was still working wonders for my hair. It didn't appear as though hormones were causing any changes whatsoever! Woohoo! I am not sure if I was just lucky with this or what, but I wasn't going to complain.

I have however, recently experienced some problems. I can't quite figure out if they are hormone related or related to the fact that we moved and the water here is different. My hair has felt a bit more grimy/straw like, and it has also been extremely static. It is kind of hard to explain the texture, but it definitely is not experience I was having before.

I started doing some research to figure out what in the world was going on with my hair. After some reading the problem could be with our water being too hard. I read that if you have a problem with hard water to first boil the water that you are going to mix with your baking soda. You can rinse with regular water but boil the water that is going into your baking soda container. So that is what I am currently trying. I haven't noticed a huge difference though, so I am leaning toward this may be related to pregnancy.

If you are experiencing any weird problems with using the No Poo method The Pistachio Project gives a great troubleshooting list with possible problems and answers. As I was reading through her list I noticed that the mousse I have been using in my hair may not be completely washed out using my no poo method. However, I have been using this same mousse the whole time so it wouldn't make sense to have a problem with it now. But I figured it is worth a try to cut it out of my routine.

So right now I am doing some experimenting. I am going to go for a while with out using any product in my hair and simply washing with my baking soda/ apple cider vinegar mixture. I may end up having to temporarily find a natural shampoo alternative until after this babe is born. I tell you all of this to say...we all go through different seasons in our lives. What works for us at one time may have to be tweaked or adjusted later. That is okay! If you are experiencing some difficulty with the No Poo method check out the troubleshooting list I posted above. She gives lots of different problems and solutions. Hopefully after this pregnancy my hair will stop going crazy so I can return to my beloved No Poo Method.

And any suggestions on a good natural shampoo that I could use in the mean time would be greatly appreciated!
This post is just a tad late since I turned 20 weeks this past Sunday. But better late than never.

My belly is much smaller this time around. I think I am carrying her farther back instead of all out front like I did with the boys. I'm sure it will catch up to me soon though. Some days I feel like I look huge, and other days I hardly feel pregnant at all.
